¿ Existe Dios?

(Salmo 14:1) El tonto se dice a sí mismo: «No hay Dios». Todos están pervertidos, hacen cosas abominables, nadie practica el bien.

¿Quiénes crees vos son la gente de mas fe?

Me atrevo a decir, que hay dos grupos con mucha fe. Los creyentes muy devotos del Señor y los ateos.

Los ateos! ¿Porqué los ateos?

Pues a como ves, ellos creen firmemente de que Dios no existe, pero, no pueden probar sus alegatos; por lo tanto tienen que recurrir a la fe, ya que si no puedes probar tus creencias con algo sólido, tu único recurso es la fe; pues has dejado fuera, el razonamiento lógico y el “método científico”. Dejame presentarte el siguiente diálogo, entre Amadeo el ateo, y Teófilo el Católico.

(Amadeo) Sabes Teófilo, no entiendo como podes creer en un Dios que no podes ver.

(Teófilo) Decime Amadeo, crees vos en el campo magnético? Y que me decís del átomo, crees en la existencia del átomo, digamos del átomo de Hidrógeno por ejemplo?

(Amadeo) Por supuesto! Podemos ver sus efectos en el laboratorio de ciencia.

(Salmo 19:1-6) Los cielos cuentan la gloria de Dios, la obra de sus manos anuncia el firmamento;
el día al día comunica el mensaje, y la noche a la noche trasmite la noticia.

No es un mensaje, no hay palabras, ni su voz se puede oír; mas por toda la tierra se adivinan los rasgos, y sus giros hasta el confín del mundo. En el mar levantó para el sol una tienda, y él, como un esposo que sale de su tálamo, se recrea, cual atleta, corriendo su carrera.

(Romanos 1:18) En efecto, la ira de Dios se revela desde el cielo contra la impiedad y la injusticia de los hombres, que por su injusticia retienen prisionera la verdad.

Porque todo cuanto se puede conocer acerca de Dios está patente ante ellos: Dios mismo se lo dio a conocer, ya que sus atributos invisibles su poder eterno y su divinidad se hacen visibles a los ojos de la inteligencia, desde la creación del mundo, por medio de sus obras. Por lo tanto, aquellos no tienen ninguna excusa.

(Teófilo) Amadeo, el punto es que vos nunca has visto ni el campo magnético, ni tampoco un átomo de ninguna clase, sin embargo crees en ellos porque podemos observar sus efectos; pues bien, lo mismo podemos decir de la invisibilidad de Dios; no lo podemos ver, pero su gloria se manifiesta por todo el universo, la tierra y en todo ser viviente que existe hasta ahora y los que han existido.

(Amadeo) Como es que no podemos manipular esas manifestaciones de Dios en el laboratorio? Deberíamos de poder aplicarles el “método científico” y probar la existencia de Dios, no crees?

(Isaias 1:2) ¡Cielos y tierra, oigan! Escuchen la queja de Yavé: «Crié hijos hasta hacerlos hombres, pero se rebelaron contra mí.
El buey conoce a su dueño y el burro el pesebre de su señor; pero Israel no me conoce, mi pueblo no comprende.»

¡Ay, gente pecadora, pueblo cargado de crímenes, raza de malvados, hijos perversos! Han abandonado a Yavé, han despreciado al Santo de Israel.

Es obvio que aun las vacas y los burros tienen muchas veces mas sentido común que nosotros los humanos, no importa que grado de educación o título tenga un individuo, porque la plena verdad es que no existe universidad en el mundo que pueda enseñar o darle “sentido común” a nadie, vos nacés con él o sin él, así nomas!


Dios es nuestro creador, nuestro Padre, Redentor y Paráclito, y aun así no lo reconocemos; preferimos creer que somos descendientes de una orangutana y no de Eva; Dios ha soplado en nosotros su espíritu, pero nos limitamos a sólo ver nuestro cuerpo material, que por vivir en este mismo ambiente con los animales, pues tenemos que tener ciertos atributos similares, como alimentarnos de lo que produce la tierra, o comiendo a otras especies inferiores; respiramos el mismo oxigeno y dependemos de la misma agua, por lo tanto hay similitud en la forma de respirar de varias especies, y así por el estilo; pero el espíritu y la inteligencia nos asemejan a Dios.

(Teófilo) Creo que deberíamos de describir lo que es el “método científico”, especialmente para los lectores mas jóvenes de este blog, estás de acuerdo?

(Amadeo) De acuerdo, en breve, es un método por el cual se observan fenómenos de diferentes clases, se prueban hipótesis y se llega a conclusiones uniformes o reproducibles.

(Teófilo ) Deberíamos de agregar que es un método para contestar a preguntas o interrogantes científicas y que por lo general incluye (1) Identificar el problema que se quiere resolver, (2) formular hipótesis, (3) probar las hipótesis en el laboratorio o un campo de pruebas; (4) colectar y analizar los resultados (data) y (5) hacer conclusiones.

(Amadeo) El método de observación y medir los resultados, son las características mas populares del “método científico”, lo cual nos ayuda a llegar a resultados variables.

(Teófilo) Se podría decir que el “método científico” es en sí, uno de los avances mas brillantes de la ciencia moderna; y no nos olvidemos que fue la Iglesia Católica la que estableció las primeras universidades en Europa (lo mismo que hospitales) en la mal llamada “Época del Oscurantismo (Edad Media)”, impulsando así, la civilización moderna.

(Amadeo) Pero a como muchas veces sucede, el alumno supera al maestro, y años después, cuando ya habían suficiente gente con educación (para ser maestros), la nobleza y personas que no querían estar bajo la tutela de la Iglesia, establecieron otras universidades.

(Teófilo) Sí, estas en lo cierto; pero es justo decir que la Iglesia tradicionalmente se ha opuesto a la ciencia , cuando ella misma ayudó a su desarrollo? A como pregonan por ahí gente ignorante?

(Amadeo) No, y para ser justo y sincero, la única vez que la Iglesia aparentemente se opuso a un hombre de ciencia, fue en el caso de Galileo Galilei, y no fue en contra de todos sus brillantes descubrimientos científicos, sino porque, muchos otros científicos de la época se oponían a sus teorías sobre el movimiento de los astros ( el sol es el centro del universo) , entonces la Iglesia condenó a Galileo por primera, pero también lo absolvió, y después, de forma casi forzada lo llevó una segunda vez ante la corte inquisitorial, condenó solamente su teoría heliocéntrica, y lo puso en arresto domiciliario.

(Teófilo) Muy bien dicho, pero volviendo a nuestro tema, me preguntaste de porqué no podemos trabajar en el laboratorio con algunas de las características o manifestaciones de Dios, de por sí, todas las leyes naturalez que la ciencia utiliza son manifestaciones de Dios, mi buen amigo.
Pero dejame preguntarte, crees que todo debe ser probado en el laboratorio?

(Amadeo) No entiendo tu pregunta.

(Juan 18:33) Entonces Pilato entró de nuevo al pretorio y llamó a Jesús y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos?
Respondió Jesús: ¿Dices eso por tu cuenta, o es que otros te lo han dicho de mí? Pilato respondió: ¿Es que yo soy judío? Tu pueblo y los sumos sacerdotes te han entregado a mí.

¿Qué has hecho? Respondió Jesús: Mi Reino no es de este mundo. Si mi Reino fuese de este mundo, mi gente habría combatido para que no fuese entregado a los judíos: pero mi Reino no es de aquí.

Entonces Pilato le dijo: ¿Luego tú eres Rey? Respondió Jesús: Sí, como dices, soy Rey. Yo para esto he nacido y para est he venido al mundo: para dar testimonio de la verdad. Todo el que es de la verdad, escucha mi voz. Le dice Pilato: ¿Qué es la verdad?

(Teófilo) Pareciera que si sólo dependemos del “método científico” para prueba de todo lo que existe, estaríamos haciendo lo mismo que los primeros filósofos Griegos, que dependían nada mas de los sentidos para observar el mundo material y querían llegar a explicar la razón de la vida y el porqué de todo lo existente; olvidando o sin darse cuenta del mundo espiritual.

(Amadeo) Recordemos sin embargo que fue Platón el que habló de la existencia de dos mundos, el material y el de las ideas, y que después Aristóteles expandió sobre él, aunque, no siendo perfecta su teoría, nos hizo ver las cosas de modo diferente, y ademas nos enseñó el uso de la lógica.

(Teófilo) Tienes mucha razón, pero, puedes probar por medio del “método científico” de cuánto te ama tu esposa? O de que la belleza es mejor que la hermosura? O nos puedes dar las dimensiones exactas del universo entero (el cosmos)?

(Amadeo) No, a todas tus preguntas;; pero crees vos en la evolución?

(Teófilo) Sí creo en la evolución, pero, existe una diferencia entre la evolución en sentido correcto, y que por cierto siempre ha existido, y no es un concepto inventado por Darwin, a como algunos de sus seguidores creen; y la “evolución Darwinista de las especies”. La ciencia tiene un límite, y no puede asegurarnos nada sobre el origen de la humanidad, hasta ahora sólo existen hipótesis sobre cómo llegamos aquí (desde la perspectiva científica); hasta hoy, no existe ninguna prueba sólida de una especie transmutando en otra diferente.

Desde el momento de nuestra concepción, somos individuos únicos (como persona) y comenzamos a evolucionar hasta el momento de la muerte, no obstante, nunca dejamos de ser la misma persona, ni tampoco evolucionamos en otra clase de ser o super-humanos; somos tu y yo, el mismísimo humano desde principio hasta el fin. Y me parece que nos estamos saliendo de nuestro tema, volvamos mejor al “método científico”.

(Efesios 3:16) Que él se digne fortificarlos por medio de su Espíritu, con forme a la riqueza de su gloria, para que crezca en ustedes el hombre interior.
Que Cristo habite en sus corazones por la fe, y sean arraigados y edificados en el amor.

Así podrán comprender, con todos los santos, cuál es la anchura y la longitud, la altura y la profundidad, en una palabra, ustedes podrán conocer el amor de Cristo, que supera todo conocimiento, para ser colmados por la plenitud de Dios.

(Amadeo) Pero, me parece que de lo que estamos hablando, es científico.

(Teófilo) Amadeo, es otro tema, pero podemos abordarlo la próxima vez; por el momento dejame preguntarte, si no podemos definir cuando comienza y termina el tiempo, y no me refiero en forma individual, sino como un todo; ni tampoco podemos definir las dimensiones del universo, cómo se nos ocurre, que podemos manipular a Dios en un laboratorio, cuando él es infinito, todopoderoso y ademas ya vimos que no todo puede ser probado en un laboratorio científico?

(Amadeo) Bueno, por lo menos no te opones al concepto de evolución de forma terminante, y parece que mantienes una mente abierta al respecto; y sí, podemos abordar ese tema en otra ocasión, pero entonces, cómo explicas la existencia de Dios?

(Teófilo) Desde hace un rato, te he estado dando pistas; pero antes de seguir, dejame contestarte con otra pregunta; ya que sos un biólogo de
profesión, nos puedes dar un ejemplo de una mutación genética o un proceso evolucionista que parece incrementar la información impresa en un genoma, en el laboratorio?

(Amadeo) Umm....umm....umm....no, no creo que algo parecido haya sido hecho en el laboratorio.

(Juan 4:22) “Ustedes adoran lo que no conocen; nosotros adoramos lo que conocemos, porque la salvación viene de los judíos.
Pero la hora se acerca, y ya ha llegado, en que los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad, porque esos son los adoradores que quiere el Padre.
Dios es espíritu, y los que lo adoran deben hacerlo en espíritu y en verdad».

(Teófilo) Aprecio tu sinceridad, y a como sabes, hay cosas que pueden existir sin que nosotros nos percatemos, Dios existe ya sea que lo conozcamos o no, o que lo queramos ignorar por completo; nadie puede hacerte ver o llevarte al conocimiento de Dios por medio de la razón; recuerda que Cristo vino al mundo, y aun cuando hizo muchos milagros entre ellos, muchos no creyeron en él; vos como biólogo puedes diseccionar un sapo en el laboratorio, pero no puedes hacer lo mismo con un pensamiento; cómo entonces piensas estudiar, o traer a Dios al laboratorio, cuando él es un espíritu y ademas es infinito?

Cuando alguien en el laboratorio pueda contestar positivamente a la pregunta que te hice anteriormente (sobre alterar la información del genoma), entonces comenzaremos un nuevo diálogo con respecto a la evolución.

Es mas probable que una hormiga pueda estudiar y entender los planes de vuelos espaciales de la NASA, de que un hombre pueda entender y explicar a Dios, “el primer motor inmóvil” de Aristóteles, o “la primer causa” de Santo Tomás de Aquino.

Este ha sido sólo una introducción, o planteo para animarlo a que ud. haga preguntas a su párroco, lea su Biblia y llegue a conocer su fe Católica de una forma mas completa y mejor. Ahora pasaremos a otra pregunta.

¿Que es la fe?

(Lucas 17:5) Los apostoles le dijeron al Señor, “aumenta nuestra fe!”
Probablemente has oído alguna vez a un pastor evangélico/protestante erradamente decir que nosotros los Católicos creemos poder obtener la salvación por medio de hacer “buenas obras” (o tareas); pero ellos, que son tan duchos y conocedores de las Escrituras saben que lo único que se necesita para ganar el cielo es, “creer en nuestro Señor Jesucristo” y listo! Ya estás salvo!

Primero, definamos lo que en la Biblia se considera, “buenas obras”; en esto se incluye, pagar el diezmo, ir a misa ( recuerden de mantener el Sabbath que es sagrado), leer la Biblia (que es la palabra de Dios), orar o rezar, dar limosnas a los pobres, obedecer los mandamientos, tener fe; conducirnos de forma moral, decente y respetuosa; tener la actitud de ser hijos de Dios (reflejando con nuestro comportamiento al Señor Jesús) y entre otras cosas, creer en nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

(Santiago 2:14) Hermanos, si uno dice que tiene fe, pero no viene con obras, ¿de qué le sirve? ¿Acaso lo salvará esa fe? Si un hermano o una hermana no tienen con qué vestirse ni qué comer, y ustedes les dicen: «Que les vaya bien, caliéntense y aliméntense», sin darles lo necesario para el cuerpo, ¿de qué les sirve eso?

Lo mismo ocurre con la fe: si no produce obras, es que está muerta.Y sería fácil decirle a uno: «Tú tienes fe, pero yo tengo obras. Muéstrame tu fe sin obras, y yo te mostraré mi fe a través de las obras. ¿Tú crees que hay un solo Dios? Pues muy bien, pero eso lo creen también los demonios y tiemblan».
¿Será necesario demostrarte, si no lo sabes todavía, que la fe sin obras no tiene sentido?

Díganme ahora, cuál de todas las clases de obras antes descritas creen uds, desecharían los críticos de nuestra Iglesia? Probablemente ninguna de ellas, porqué? Porque todas ellas son la marca que identifica a los Cristianos (seguidores de Jesús); si volvemos ahora la mirada a (Lucas 17:5) y (Santiago 2:14) que les presenté anteriormente, notaran que aunque la fe es dada a nosotros por Dios, lo mismo que la capacidad de escoger.

Es últimamente nuestra responsabilidad el desarrollar nuestra fe y ponerla a trabajar para gloria de Dios, al igual que nuestra capacidad de escoger entre lo bueno y lo malo; Dios no interfiere ni nos obliga ya sea de una forma o la otra, pero es nuestra obligación el hacer el bien y honrar así a nuestro Padre Celestial y a nuestros progenitores.

Como buenos Católicos, debemos de dar honor a quien honor merece, y debo decir que agradezco mucho a todos los grupos de médicos y enfermeras extranjeros que llegan a Nicaragua, a ofrecer sus servicios gratuitamente a la gente pobre del país, el servicio proveído por esos doctores es en su mayoría auspiciado por iglesias Cristianas ; otros grupos llevan útiles escolares, ropa y zapatos a los niños pobres del país. Cuanto quisiera que los médicos Nicaragüenses que viven en el extranjero hicieran lo mismo por sus paisanos. Que Dios bendiga mucho a todos los buenos representantes de Cristo.

(Efesios 2:8) Porque ustedes han sido salvados por la gracia, mediante la fe. Esto no proviene de ustedes, sino que es un don de Dios; y no es el resultado de las obras, para que nadie se gloríe.

Nosotros somos creación suya: fuimos creados en Cristo Jesús, a fin de realizar aquellas buenas obras, que Dios preparó de antemano para que las practicáramos.

Hemos sido salvados por la gracia de Dios, fue su iniciativa el de enviar a su único hijo, para que por su gran sacrificio fuésemos redimidos, no tuvimos que hacer nada de nuestra parte, mas bien, estábamos muertos en el pecado; pero ahora, después que Dios nos ha probado tanto amor, estamos obligados a responder a su dulzura, conduciéndonos como hombres y mujeres nuevos, llenos de fe y haciendo el bien, tal a como nuestro Señor lo hizo cuando estuvo con nosotros aquí en la tierra.

Porqué Dios, no nos alimenta todos los días como cuando eramos bebes y nos alimentaba nuestra madre? Pues porque nos ha proveído con un buen par de manos, para que vayamos a trabajar y ganemos así nuestra subsistencia. Pasa igual con nuestra fe, sabemos que el precio que pagó nuestro Señor en la Cruz fue caro y definitivo; corresponde ahora a nosotros mantenernos en la gracia de Dios y comportarnos como hermanos de Jesús, viviendo una vida honrada , haciendo el bien en todo momento.

Fe, no es sólo la definición de un bello concepto abstracto, no! fe es acción ejecutada en el corazón, el alma y cuerpo del creyente. Si prestas atención a (Lucas 17:5) arriba, notaras que los apóstoles no le pidieron al Señor fe, sino, que 'les aumentara' el poquito de fe que ya tenían, (que les diera la fe que es fruto del Espíritu); es como cuando una joven va a la universidad, ella ya tiene un cerebro con la capacidad de pensar, analizar, meditar y razonar, pero, sus profesores la entrenaran y le darán mas conocimiento en materias especificas de la ciencia, que la convertirán en una profesional capaz y competente.

Para poder aumentar o fortalecer nuestra fe, debemos de leer mucho la Biblia, orar (rezar) mucho, hacer buenas obras, y mantenernos conectados con la comunidad; participando en actividades culturales, ayudando con los proyectos de la parroquia, donando parte de nuestro tiempo especialmente con los jóvenes y los ancianos, y ser amistosos y accesibles a los demás.

Para secundar lo que hasta ahora he dicho, déjenme presentarles (Hebreos 11:1) La fe es aferrarse a lo que se espera, es la certeza de cosas que no se pueden ver. Esto mismo es lo que recordamos en nuestros antepasados.

Por la fe creemos que las etapas de la creación fueron dispuestas por la palabra de Dios y entendemos que el mundo visible tiene su origen en lo que no aparece.

Para nosotros los creyentes, la sustancia de la que estan compuestas todas las cosas es (de lo que se aferra o donde se apoya nuestra fe), la palabra de Dios; la palabra 'substancia' viene del Griego, y significa algo sólido sobre lo que se puede plantar o depositar otra cosa; nosotros nos apoyamos o estamos sostenidos por la Roca, que
es Jesús el Señor. Arriba, cuando se dice “la certeza de lo que no se puede ver”, significa que no dependemos de un positivismo tonto, sino que contamos con seguridad en las promesas de Dios, quien es el amigo que nunca falla.

Para complacer a Dios, necesitamos de la fe,(Hebreos 11:6) Ahora bien, sin fe es imposible agradarle, pues el que se acerca a Dios ha de creer que existe y que recompensa a los que le buscan. Por la fe, Noé, advertido por Dios de lo que aún no se veía, con religioso temor construyó un arca para salvar a su familia; por la fe, condenó al mundo y llegó a ser heredero de la justicia según la fe.

Noé tuvo fe en Dios quien lo advirtió de lo que iba a suceder, y porque creyó en su palabra construyó el arca ( vemos aquí una acción (obra) inspirada por la fe); aunque Noé vivía en medio del desierto, no se puso a pedir a Dios pruebas científicas de porqué era necesario, construir un bote Crucero cuando todo lo que había a su alrededor era arena seca; no discutió con Dios y le hizo ver que lo lógico era mas bien construir un vehículo “todo terreno” (con tracción en las 4 ruedas),no, el nada mas obedeció, y lo mismo debemos hacer nosotros; si estamos en la necesidad de una curación de una enfermedad; oremos a Dios y busquemos un buen médico con especialización en el mal que nos acosa.

Cuando el ángel del Señor le anunció a la adolescente Hebrea llamada María, de que iba a ser madre del hijo del Dios altísimo, ella no pidió pruebas, mas bien con toda humildad, obediencia y fe dijo, “hágase en mi de acuerdo a tu palabra”.

Cuando las cosas se pusieron feas, como cuando el profeta Simeon le advirtió que una espada le iba a traspasar el alma, o cuando no encontraron lugar en la posada y dio a luz en un pesebre, o cuando crucificaron a su hijo; no encontramos a María murmurando o protestando contra Dios, quejándose y dudando de su palabra, a como lo hacen los ateos y los de poca fe, que constantemente se quejan y maldicen a Dios por las cosas malas que pasan en el mundo, son iguales a la mujer de Job, quien le recomendó maldecir al Señor por las desgracias que lo aquejaban.

Alguien una vez dijo que el problema de la incredulidad de los ateos, no es un problema intelectual, sino, mas bien moral; veamos el siguiente versiculo, que nos ayudara a entender lo antes dicho,(Hebreos 3:12) ¡Mirad, hermanos!, que no haya en ninguno de vosotros un corazón maleado (corrompido) por la incredulidad que le haga apostatar de Dios vivo; antes bien, exhortaos mutuamente cada día mientras dure este hoy, para que ninguno de vosotros se endurezca seducido por el pecado.

(1Juan 5:9) Si aceptamos el testimonio de los hombres, mayor es el testimonio de Dios, pues este es el testimonio de Dios, que ha testimoniado acerca de su Hijo. Quien cree en el Hijo de Dios tiene el testimonio en sí mismo. Quien no cree a Dios le hace mentiroso, porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo.

Dios podría darnos prueba de su existencia para que no nos quepa ni una duda, sólo que esta vez no se presentaría como el manso Jesús de Nazareth, probablemente sacudiría todo el universo y haría temblar a los incrédulos; pero, entonces ya la fe no seria necesaria; Dios quiere que respondamos a él de la misma forma que los santos del pasado, que junto a María la Virgen lo hicieron; honramos así su santo Nombre por medio de nuestra fe; el quiere que vos y yo seamos honestos y creamos en él.

Para vencer a Satanás, necesitamos tener fe en el Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, (Efesios 6:16) Carguen siempre el escudo de la Fe, para que podáis apagar con él todos los encendidos dardos del Maligno.

(Mateo 9:27) Cuando Jesús se iba de allí, al pasar le siguieron dos ciegos gritando: ¡Ten piedad de nosotros, Hijo de David! Y al llegar a casa, se le acercaron los ciegos, y Jesús les dice: ¿Creéis que puedo hacer eso? Dícenle: Sí, Señor. Entonces les tocó los ojos diciendo: Hágase en vosotros según vuestra fe. Y se abrieron sus ojos.

Para completar el ciclo de la fe, debemos siempre de ser agradecidos y dar gracias a Dios todos los días, ya que nuestra vida es un regalo de Dios y cada día es una oportunidad que se nos da, para desarrollar nuestro potencial, como hijos/hijas de Dios; mantengamos siempre una actitud alegre y optimista, aun en medio de las dificultades, manteniendo la paciencia y nunca perdamos nuestra dignidad, y alabemos a Dios y cantemosle gloria en toda ocasión.

Que Dios los bendiga, de acuerdo a su fe.


Que la Luz de Dios alumbre su camino y entendimiento.

Does God exist?

(Psalm 14:1) The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.

Who, do you you think are the most faithful people in the world?

I venture to say, that there are two groups of people with very strong faith. The true believers in God, and the atheists.

The atheists, why the atheists?

Well, they have a very strong belief, that there is no God, but, they can not prove their claims; so they have to resort to faith, because if you can not prove your believes in someone or something, then you just have your faith, you can not use logic or the 'scientific method' for that matter. Let me present you with a dialog between Joe the Atheist, and Theophilus the Catholic Christian.

(Joe) You know Theophilus, I don't know how you can believe in a God that you can't see.

(Theophilus) Well Joe, do you believe in the magnetic force? How about the atom, do you believe in the existence of the atom, let's say of Hydrogen?

(Joe) Yes, Of course! We could see their effects, and manipulate them in the lab.

(Psalm 19:1-6) States, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Nature tells everyone about God’s glory and that everything is made by Him.

(Romans 1:18-21) Declares, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” According to this text, nature reveals that God exists and that He is powerful. This testimony is so powerful that no person can claim that he or she knows nothing about God.

(Theophilus) The point is Joe, that you have never seen, neither a magnetic field or an atom of any kind, yet you believe in both of them because you can see their effects; well, the same thing could be said about the invisibility of God; we can not see him, but we could see the manifestation of his glory all through out the world we live in, the universe and in each and every person that exists and have existed on earth.

(Joe) How come, we can not work with any of those manifestations of God in the lab? We should be able to use the “scientific method” to prove the existence of God, don't you think?

(Isaiah 1:2) Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!
For the LORD has spoken: “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me.
The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.”

Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him.

It's obvious that even oxen, donkeys and mules have and shown many times, more sense than we the humans, it does not matter the degree of education that anyone has, or what university he's graduated from; the plain and undeniable truth is, that there's no school of higher education in the world, that could teach you or give you “common sense”, you are either born with it, or you are not, just as simple as that.

God is our creator, our Father, Redeemer and Paraclete; yet, we don't acknowledge this simple truth about us, and our dependence on Him; we prefer to believe that our great great grand mother is a she-chimpanzee and not, Eve. God has breathed his spirit in us, but, we limit ourselves to look only to our physical body, in a kind of navel gazing, and because we live together in this world with the animals, we forget that that gives us and them, many common characteristics, like things that we eat in common, the look of some monkees and man; some association patterns, the air and water we share and so on.

But man has a spirit and the intelligence that, make us in the likeness of God.

(Theophilus) I think we should describe what the “scientific method” is, especially for the young readers of our blog, wouldn't you agree, Joe?

(Joe) Yes of course, briefly, it is a method by which phenomena are observed, hypothesis are tested and conclusions are drawn.

(Theophilus) We should add that, this method is used for scientific inquiry, and that in general it includes the following steps: (1) Identify a problem the we would like to solve; (2) formulate a hypothesis; (3) test the hypothesis (in the lab, or a test field); (4) collect and analyzed the data, and (5) make conclusions.

(Joe)The method of observation, and measuring the results are the most popular characteristics of the “scientific method”, which could help us obtain verifiable results.

(Theophilus) It could be said that, the “scientific method” is in itself, one of the most brilliant discoveries or developments of modern science; let's not either forget that it was the Catholic Church that established the first schools of higher learning in Europe (during the wrongly called “Dark Ages”), and advanced modern civilization.

(Joe) Yes, but, as often happens, the student surpasses the teacher, and later on (many years later) some other universities were established, funded by nobles and people that didn't want to be under the auspice of the Church.

(Theophilus) I'll give you that, Joe, but, is it fair to say that the Church has traditionally opposed the advancement of knowledge, or been against science? As some ignorant people claim today?

(Joe) No, and to be honest and fair, the only time the Church has been apparently opposed to a man of science, was against Galileo Galilei, and not against all his magnificent scientific discoveries, but, because there was something about his heliocentric (the sun been the center of the universe) views that, shocked the belief of many other scientists of his time; never the less the Church reluctantly after absolving him the first time, took him to the inquisitional court a second time, and condemned his views (in astronomy only), and condemned him to house arrest.

(Theophilus) Well said, now, back to our discussion; you asked me why we can not take some of God's manifestations and work with them in the lab; remember my dear friend, that the laws of nature that you use in the lab, are themselves, a manifestation of God; now, do you think that everything needs and have to be proven with the “scientific method”?

(Joe) What do you mean?

(John 18:33) Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” “What is truth?” retorted Pilate.

(Theophilus) Well, it seems that only to rely on the “scientific method” for everything in life, is the same thing that the first Greek philosophers were doing, by trying to explain the reason for life and everything, by just observing and relying on the material world; we are counting on our senses only and forgetting that there is another world, the world of ideas and the spiritual world.

(Joe) But, remember that Plato came with the idea of two worlds and then, Aristotle improved it, even though it wasn't a perfect idea they initiated a new way of looking at things, and as materialists as they were, they taught (Aristotle) us a logical way of thinking.

(Theophilus) Absolutely correct, now, could you by using the scientific method, prove that your wife loves you? Or That Beauty is better than ugliness? Or could you give us the exact measurements of the outer space (the cosmos)?

(Joe)No, to all of the above, but, do you believe in evolution?

(Theophilus) Yes I believe in evolution, but, there is a difference between evolution in the real sense, and the “Darwinian evolution of the species”; science has a limit when it comes to tell us about the human origin, and so far, there is no prove of one specie transmuting into another.

From the moment we are born, we are a unique individual; then we evolution through our life until the day we die, never the less, we never stop been ourselves, and we don't evolution into a different kind of been; we are still the same human been from day one to the last. But, let's not branch into another subject and let's go back to the “scientific method”.

(Ephesians 3:16)I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

(Joe) But, I think what we are talking about, is scientific.

(Theophilus) Joe, it is a whole different subject, and we could get at it at a different time; for the time been, let me ask you: if we can not define, when time begins and ends, not for an individual, but as a whole, and we can not determine the dimensions of the universe; how could you think we could know or bring God who is perfect, infinite, omniscient and almighty into a lab? I already proved to you that not everything could be subjected to the scientific method.

(Joe) At least you didn't say that evolution is completely wrong, and you're keeping an open mind about it; and yes, I'll be glad to talk about 'evolution' in our next debate. How then, do you explain the existence of God?

(Theophilus) I've given you clues about it, all along, but, before I answer your question, since you are a biologist, can you give me an example of a genetic mutation or an evolutionary process, which can be seen to increase the information in the gnome? Or have you ever seen anything like that in the lab?

(Joe) Um........um.....um.....no I don't, or can't think of anything like that ever been done.

(John 4:23) “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

(Theophilus) I appreciate your sincerity, and as you know, something could exist without us knowing about it; God exists whether we know about him or not; by reason I can not lead you to know God; just remember, that Jesus came, and many people did not believed in him, even when he performed many miracles among them; you as a scientist, know that you could easily dissect a frog in the lab, but, you can not do the same thing with a thought; how then, do you expect to be able to study God who is an infinite spirit?

It is much possible that an ant, could study and understand the flight programs of NASA, than man could understand and explain God, the “unmoved mover” of Aristotle, or the “first cause” of St. Thomas Aquinas.

This introduction is just a primer; it is my intention that it will compel you to prepare yourself better, and to study the Scripture and ask questions to your local priest and know better your Catholic faith.


What is faith?

(Luke 17:5) The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!"

You've probably heard 'some' evangelical pastor say, that we Catholics wrongly believe, that we could gain haven by doing good works (deeds); but they, been so savvy and smart, know that the only requirement to be saved , is to “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ” and, that's it!

First, let's define what the Bible describes as “works”; work is tithing, attending mass (going to church on Sunday, remember to keep the Sabbath holy), reading the Bible, praying, giving alms to the poor, obeying the tenth commandments, having faith, been moral and respectful , acting as sons of God (reflecting Christ in our lives) and among others things believing in our Lord Jesus Christ.

(James 2:14) What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.

If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

Now, which one of any of those kinds of 'good works' that I mentioned above, could be bypassed by the critics of the Catholic Church? Probably none of them, why? Because all of them are the trade marks of been a Christian; so, now we could look back at (Luke 17:5) and (James 2:14) and see that even when faith is something given to us by God, same as our faculty of been able to choose, it is up to us to develop our faith and to put it to work; we have the capacity to choose good and evil; God does not interfere in which one we opt for, but, it is our responsibility to do good, to be able to honor God and contribute to the general well been of our love ones and the community.

As true Catholic believers, we should give honor, to whom honor is due; and I'd like at this time to express my appreciation and thanks to all the groups of foreign doctors and nurses, who travel to Nicaragua to offer their professional services free of charge, to the poor people in the provinces of our country; also to all the others who bring school supplies, clothes and shoes to the needy kids over the land. Oh how much I'd like that the Nicaraguan doctors who reside out of the country would do the same thing, for their compatriots. May God abundantly bless all the good representatives of Christ.

(Ephesians 2:8) For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God; Not of works, that no man may glory. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus in good works, which God hath prepared that we should walk in them.

By the grace of God, we have been saved, it was his initiative to send his only begotten Son to redeem us; even when we were still a bunch of sinners, and not good boys and girls; we must accept salvation through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and perform good works (deeds) that men could see in us the good character of our Lord. We should conduct ourselves, like new men.

Why doesn't God feed us everyday, like when we were babies and were fed by our parents? Well, because he provided us with a good pair of hands to go out to work, to gain our salary, so we could have money and paid for our food. That's exactly what happens with faith, we know that the price for our salvation has been paid for in full by our Lord Jesus on the Cross; but, now it is up to us to stay in the grace of God and behave like the brothers and sisters of Jesus the Christ, leaving a descent life and performing 'good works'.

Faith is not just a beautiful definition, faith is an action perform in the heart, soul and body of the believer. If you pay attention to (Luke 17:5) above, you'll notice that the apostles didn't ask the Lord to give them faith, but to increase the little faith they already had; when a young man or woman goes to college, they already have a brain with the capacity to think, analyze, meditate and reason; but, their professors will train and give them more knowledge in specific subjects, that will make them later on, good and competent professionals.

To increase our faith, we must read the Scripture, pray a lot, perform good deeds and stay connected to the community, participating in uplifting activities like, helping in the projects of the parish, providing our time to help the youngsters and he elderly, and staying accessible and friendly to our fellow man.

To back everything I have said so far, let me present you with (Hebrews 11:1) Now faith is the substance of things to be hoped for, the evidence of things that appear not. For by this the ancients obtained a testimony. By faith we understand that the world was framed by the word of God; that from invisible things visible things might be made.

For us the believers, the substance or the thing that makes everything else, is the Word of God; the word substance is from the Greek, and means something solid upon which something else could rest on, or stand, we stand on the Rock, Jesus Christ the Lord. What does it mean by the “evidence of things that appear not?” Well, for starters it does not mean “positive thinking”, but, relying on the promises of God, who is the friend that never fails.

To please God, we must have faith, (Hebrews 11:6) But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder to them that seek him. By faith Noe, having received an answer concerning those things which as yet were not seen, moved with fear, framed the ark for the saving of his house.

Noe, had faith in God and believed him, as a result of that, Noe went to work to build the ark (you can see here an action, a 'work' inspired by faith) proving this way, that he believed in God and had faith in his promises. Noe, even though he lived in the middle of the desert, didn't ask for scientific proof that a boat would work in the sand, he didn't argued with God, that it was probably better to build or make a four wheel drive vehicle instead. If we pray for the cure of any disease, we must have faith in God and at the same time, look for the right kind of physician to get the results we want.

When the angel of the Lord told the young Hebrew girl named Mary, that she was going to bear the son of the Most High God, she didn't ask for proof ; instead in all humility, obedience and faith she said: Be it done to me according to your word. When things got ugly, like when the holy family didn't find an available room in the Inn; or when they had to escape to Egypt; or when The Lord was crucified; we don't see Mary murmuring against God, like the atheists who constantly complain against God when bad things happen; they are like and act like the wife of Job, who asked him to condemn God for all his misfortunes.

Someone once said that the problem with the unbelief of the atheists, is not an intellectual problem, but, a moral problem; for that, let's look at: (Hebrews 3:12) Take heed, brethren, lest perhaps there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, to depart from the living God. Which proves that unbelief starts in the heart and then, it goes to the head, and as you know, the heart, refers in biblical terms to our feelings, our conscience and our thinking.

(1 John 5:9) If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth in the Son of God, hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son, maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.

If God wanted to prove to us that he exists, he would not appear again like the humble Jesus of Nazareth, he would probably shake the whole universe and make all doubters tremble; but, then faith would not be necessary; God wants us to respond to him the same way all the saints of the past and the holy Virgin Mary did; honoring his character and his holy Name through our faith; he wants you and I to be honest and believe in Him.

To have victory over Satan we need to have faith in the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 6:16) In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.

(Matthew 9:27) And as Jesus passed from thence, there followed him two blind men crying out and saying, Have mercy on us, O Son of David. And when he was come to the house, the blind men came to him. And Jesus saith to them, Do you believe, that I can do this unto you? They say to him, Yea, Lord.

Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it done unto you. And their eyes were opened.

To complete the cycle of faith, we must have a thankful spirit, we must thank God for every day we are alive, each and every day of our life is a gift from God, an opportunity to exercise our full potential as sons and daughters of the Most high God; show your adoration and respect to the Lord, by keeping a cheerful attitude even in the midst of difficulties, be joyful and patient, never lose your dignity and offer praise and glory only to God, and not to any other creature.

El día de Pentecostés, Pedro, de pie con los Once, pidió atención y les dirigió la palabra: «Todo Israel esté cierto de que al mismo Jesús, a quien vosotros crucificasteis, Dios lo ha constituido Señor y Mesías.»
Estas palabras les traspasaron el corazón, y preguntaron a Pedro y a los demás apóstoles: «¿Qué tenemos que hacer, hermanos?»

Lectura del santo evangelio según san Juan (10,1-10):

En aquel tiempo, dijo Jesús: «Os aseguro que el que no entra por la puerta en el aprisco de las ovejas, sino que salta por otra parte, ése es ladrón y bandido; pero el que entra por la puerta es pastor de las ovejas. A éste le abre el guarda, y las ovejas atienden a su voz, y él va llamando por el nombre a sus ovejas y las saca fuera. Cuando ha sacado todas las suyas, camina delante de ellas, y las ovejas lo siguen, porque conocen su voz; a un extraño no lo seguirán, sino que huirán de él, porque no conocen la voz de los extraños.»

Jesús les puso esta comparación, pero ellos no entendieron de qué les hablaba.
Por eso añadió Jesús: «Os aseguro que yo soy la puerta de las ovejas. Todos los que han venido antes de mí son ladrones y bandidos; pero las ovejas no los escucharon. Yo soy la puerta: quien entre por mí se salvará y podrá entrar y salir, y encontrará pastos. El ladrón no entra sino para robar y matar y hacer estrago; yo he venido para que tengan vida y la tengan abundante.»

El Señor es mi Pastor

1.- La vida resucitada
Desaparecen de escena los testigos de la resurrección -Magdalena, Tomás, los de Emaús-, y aparece el valor profundo que ellos anunciaban: la vida resucitada. “He venido para que tengan vida y la tengan abundante”, proclama hoy el Evangelio.
Jesús lo expresa en la alegoría del buen pastor. Igual que dijo: “Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida”, “Yo soy la vid verdadera”, “Yo soy la luz del mundo”, “Yo soy el pan de vida”, de la misma manera, este domingo, se nos revela: “Yo soy el Buen Pastor”. Es la imagen bíblica, campestre, bucólica. Pegaba muy bien en un pueblo con cultura de pastoreo nómada.

Las ovejas que nos gloriamos de tal pastor estamos lejos del lado oscuro del “borreguismo”; más bien, nos acordamos de los dibujos tiernos de las catacumbas, donde la de pastor es la primera imagen de Jesús. ¿Y cómo no recrearnos en la voz de la poesía que canta a Jesucristo, pastor?: “¿Y dejas, Pastor Santo, tu grey en este valle hondo, oscuro…?”, “Pastor que, con tus silbos amorosos, me despertaste del profundo sueño. Tú que hiciste cayado de ese leño en que tiendes tus brazos poderosos”.

2.- Palabra

Es interesante evocar la circunstancia. Los fariseos han echado fuera de la sinagoga al ciego de nacimiento; les da en rostro la luz que Jesús ha devuelto a los ojos de aquel pobre sin vista. Es decir, pertenecen a los malos pastores porque, más que cuidar, machacan a sus ovejas con mil cargas pesadas y rigorismos inútiles.
Aquí se sitúa la alegoría del pastor. Jesús, en la metáfora, se identifica como la puerta del aprisco, como el pastor que entra por la puerta y no como el bandido, como el pastor bueno y no mercenario.

Qué bien va describiendo Jesús su relación amorosa con las ovejas: El buen pastor las conoce a todas, las llama por su nombre, las saca a los pastos, camina silbando delante de ellas y da su vida por ellas. En correspondencia, sus ovejas lo conocen, escuchan su voz y le siguen. Sin alegorías, Pedro, en la lectura segunda, nos presenta a Jesús como el pastor-siervo sufriente, inocente, paciente, redentor siempre: “Sus heridas os han curado”, nos recuerda.

Jesús establece un paralelismo revelador: Igual que el Padre le ama, él ama a sus ovejas. Aún más. Es que las ovejas son del Padre, y el Hijo da la vida por ellas, y por eso el Padre le ama. Todo, un círculo sublime.

3.- Vida

Porque creemos en un pastor que tanto nos quiere, se despierta nuestra confianza en él. No nos cuesta escuchar su voz, conocerle cada día más, seguirle hasta la muerte. Pronto desenmascararemos a los falsos pastores, a tantos ídolos, “que no saben decirme lo que quiero”. Y es que Jesús no sólo es la vida y nos da su vida, es también el camino y la puerta para esa vida. Curiosamente le llamamos pastor… y “cordero que quita el pecado”. Pastor que coge en sus brazos a la oveja herida, al triste, al desvalido, al pecador. Él nos dice como a sus discípulos: “No temas, pequeño rebaño” Y nosotros lo creemos.

Es urgente darnos cuenta de que todos hemos de ser buenos pastores; no sólo los jefes, los dignatarios, “los de arriba”. Como seguidores e imitadores de Jesús, nosotros llevamos a nuestra vida su modo de pastorear, es decir, de cuidar, de proteger, de curar heridas, de coger en brazos, de dar la vida y des-vivirse por los demás. Igual que a Pedro, nos pregunta Jesús: “¿Me amas? Pues, apacienta a mis ovejas”.

Sólo desde el amor tiene sentido. La credibilidad y autoridad moral de los hombres y mujeres de la Iglesia va en relación directa con la capacidad de dar la vida; y vida es ser misericordiosos, lavar los pies, hacerse samaritanos, consolar, tener pasión por la justicia. Lo contrario es propio de ladrones y bandidos: actitudes rígidas, legalismos que aplastan, frialdad ante el sufrimiento del otro. Es lo que denunciaba Jesús en los fariseos. (¿Podríamos preguntarnos aquí el porqué de la marcha silenciosa de tantos cristianos bautizados que nos abandonan?).

La palabra mágica que repite el Evangelio es “servir”; servir a todos, no servirse de nadie. Esta regla de oro para un buen pastor la hacemos hoy exigencia en el Día de Oración por las Vocaciones. Queremos presbíteros y religiosos en el gozo de haber sido llamados por su nombre, en la experiencia de escuchar la voz del Maestro, en la capacidad de comunión, en la santidad.

La Eucaristía es el punto de encuentro más verdadero entre el pastor y las ovejas. Copiamos a Luis de Gógora:
“Oveja perdida, ven
sobre mis hombros, que hoy
no sólo tu Pastor soy
sino tu pasto también.
