Siguiente pregunta: cual es la diferencia entre hermenéutica y exégesis?
Supongamos que un muchacho habla perfecto Español y Alemán, y sucede que un profesor de la UCA le pide que traduzca un libro de Termodinámica del Alemán al Español, el
joven hace una buena traducción del libro a como le pidió el profesor, pero él no entiende ni papa de Termodinámica, en cambio el profe, si puede utilizar el libro como texto y explicarlo a sus alumnos; en este caso el joven ha utilizado la hermenéutica, y el profesor la exégesis.La palabra “hermenéutica” se aplica a la traducción de la Biblia (los escritos antiguos) a idiomas modernos; en toda traducción, el traductor siempre trata de expresar las ideas de un idioma a otro, de la mejor forma posible, ya que es imposible traducir palabra por palabra de un idioma a otro, sin perder la idea que el autor original de un escrito, quiere expresar a sus lectores.
(Exégesis) Los “expertos” en determinadas disciplinas interpretan el significado de ciertos escritos, como la Biblia; estos hombres y mujeres tienen conocimiento en culturas e idiomas antiguos, la mayoría de ellos son teólogos y filósofos ademas de poseer otros conocimientos.
Ademas de sus maestrías, los expertos que interpretan las Sagradas Escrituras necesitan de la inspiración del Espíritu Santo, quien es el autor de la Biblia, y el único que realmente nos puede dar el verdadero significado de los escritos sagrados; sin embargo, hay muchos autodenominados “profetas” que hoy en día alegan tener la versión “oficial” de la revelación divina; recordemos no obstante que el Señor designó a la Iglesia para que fuera la que nos interpretaría su palabra.
(Mateo 16:18) “Y ahora yo te digo: Tú eres Pedro (o sea Piedra), y sobre ésta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia.”
(Juan 16:13) “Cuando venga el Espíritu de la Verdad, él los introducirá en toda la verdad, porque no hablará por sí mismo, sino que dirá lo que ha oído y les anunciará lo que irá sucediendo.”
Has estado usando alternadamente los términos “milenealistas” y “dispensasionalistas”, significan lo mismo o hay diferencia?
No, se refieren al mismo grupo de evangélicos que creen en la doctrina del “rapto” a como es explicada por el dúo de Hal Lindsey y Tim LaHaye, quienes son los principales promotores de esa creencia; algunos veces este grupo es identificado como “milenealista” porque ellos creen que los “mil años” mencionados en (Apocalipsis 20) significan exactamente mil años de 365 días, y no simbólicamente la representación de un periodo de tiempo muy grande, a como creemos nosotros los Católicos y muchos otros grupos protestantes.
Algunas otras veces este grupo es llamado “dispensacionalistas”, porque creen en dividir la historia de la salvación en siete periodos diferentes, a como ya expliqué en “el Rapto parte1”, pero son el mismo grupo.
Y para complicar mas las cosas, los grupos que creen en el “rapto” se dividen en tres grupos; un grupo (el de Lindsey/LaHaye) creen que el rapto sucederá antes del “periodo de tribulación” de siete años, por eso ademas de los adjetivos que ya les hemos asignado, hay que agregar el de “pre-tribulacionistas”; hay un grupo que creen que el “rapto” será a tres años y medio de la tribulación, a este grupo se le conoce como “med-tribulacionistas”; y por ultimo existe otro grupo que creen el rapto será después del periodo de tribulación, este grupo es conocido como “pos-tribulacionistas”, les cuento que nosotros los Católicos somos de la creencia que la Segunda Venida del Señor (la Perusia) será después del periodo de tribulación, de eso hablaremos más en el próximo capitulo de la serie.
Esta presentación es sólo un bosquejo del fenómeno llamado “el rapto”, para que uds. tengan una buena idea de lo que significa el “rapto”, y así no los agarren fuera de base, o los impresionen con cuentos fundamentalistas, los predicadores de la confusión; si quieren tener un conocimiento más profundo sobre este tema, les recomiendo que compren el libro de Carl E Olson titulado "Serán los Católicos Abandonados al Final?” en Inglés: “Will Catholics be Left Behind?”; el Señor Olson hace una extensa exposición sobre éste tema, él es un ex-pupilo de Hal Lindsey y ahora un Católico convertido, lo cual le da una perspectiva muy importante, pueden comprar su libro por la “internet” en el sitio web: www.ignatius.com o www.ewtn.com.
Por qué no es tan fácil comprender el libro del Apocalipsis?
Creo que lo que agrega a la confusión con el libro del Apocalipsis, es el hecho de que mucha gente que lo lee, lo quiere interpretar de forma cronológica y ordenada, lo cual es incorrecto porque la visión de Juan, es un sueño, y al igual que nuestros sueños, las cosa son presentadas de forma caótica, no hay orden ni proporsión correcta del tiempo, las cosas o los temas.
(Apocalipsis 1:17) Al verlo caí como muerto a sus pies; pero me tocó con la mano derecha y me dijo: «No temas, soy yo, el Primero y el Ultimo, el que vive. Estuve muerto, pero ahora estoy vivo por los siglos de los siglos y tengo las llaves de la Muerte y de su reino.
Escribe, pues, lo que has visto, tanto lo presente como lo que ha de suceder después.
Escucha el significado de las siete estrellas que has visto en mi mano derecha y de los siete candeleros de oro: las siete estrellas son los ángeles de las siete Iglesias, y los siete candeleros son las siete Iglesias.»
El Magisterium de la Iglesia hace para nosotros los Católicos, la interpretación y explicasión de la Palabra de Dios, deberíamos ademas de eso, educarnos más, leyendo libros escritos por sacerdotes y apologistas Católicos como Carl E Olson, Scott Hahn,Mark Shea, Tim Gray (www.catholiccompany.com) el Cardenal Ratzinger (el Papa Benedicto XVI), el padre Mitch Pacwa y muchos otros.
Vemos en el versículo anterior, cómo Juan está supuesto a escribir sobre hechos que ya sucedieron, otras veces sobre el presente y también sobre cosas que sucederán en el futuro, que es exactamente lo que experimentamos en nuestros sueños; en un
momento estamos en Managua, inmediatamente aparecemos jugando con nuestros amiguitos de la infancia y nos volteamos y estamos en el dia de nuestra boda en Estelí, si tratamos de entender lo que soñamos anoche, nos confundiríamos quizás por el resto de nuestra vida. Afortunadamente el Magisterium viene a auxiliar y explicarnos el mensaje que el Espíritu Santo está tratando de entregarnos.
No tenemos que inventar nuevos significados o explicaciones a cada versículo en particular, sino que, debemos de tomar la Biblia completa como el mensaje de Dios, y no despedazarla en trozos aislados y sin relación entre si.
Los Ultimos Días
Todo lo anterior me traen a la mente el tema de “los últimos días” a cómo es entendido por los “dispensacionalistas” y a cómo lo entendemos nosotros los Católicos; algunas veces nos encontraremos con el término “escatología” o “escatológico”, esto esta relacionado con el día final o el “juicio final”, la palabra Griega “eschatos” se refiere a las enseñanzas relacionadas con el final de algo, de ahí que la “escatología” se refiera al estudio del final del tiempo, esto incluye la muerte, resurrección, la Perusia (Segunda Venida de Cristo), el juicio final, el cielo y el infierno.
De acuerdo a los fundamentalistas----segun Hal Lindsey, él está orgulloso de ser un “fundamentalista”, pues según él, eso equivale a interpretar la Biblia de forma literal, y reconocerla como autoridad, es por eso que no crean que estoy usando la palabra “fundamentalista” como adjetivo derogativo, sino en el sentido “dispensacionalista” de Hal Lindsey y LaHaye---bueno pues según estos tíos, los últimos días por fin han llegado y el fin del mundo está a la vuelta de la esquina.
Muchos pastores, televangelistas y maestros evangélicos están dando la voz de alarma sobre un colapso económico mundial (sólo que el mentado colapso era evidente para todo el mundo, gracias a la avaricia y la codicia desmedida que existen hoy en día; y a las estúpidas prácticas económicas de los últimos años por parte de las grandes corporaciones y los bancos que controlan el mundo), anarquía social, guerra mundial, una religión apóstata única que reemplazará todas las otras religiones ( que de acuerdo a los “dispensacionalistas,” será liderada por la Iglesia Católica, vaya sorpresa!) y el surgimiento del Anticristo (será acaso un Puertorriqueño?)
Los Últimos Días y Algo Sobre El Reino
Estámos a como dicen los pastores evangélicos en “los últimos días”? Y si es así, cuánto tiempo más falta para la Segunda Llegada (Perusia) del Señor, y qué es lo que exactamente ocurrirá, cuando El venga?
(Hebreos 9.27) Así como los hombres mueren una sola vez, y después viene para ellos el juicio; de la misma manera Cristo se sacrificó una sola vez para quitar los pecados de una multitud. La segunda vez se manifestará a todos aquellos que lo esperan como a su salvador, pero ya no será por causa del pecado.
Para la Iglesia, el periodo final de la historia del mundo comenzó con el nacimiento de Cristo e incluye el peregrinaje de la Iglesia y será consumado con la Segunda Venida de Cristo. De manera que si vemos el paisaje total, los términos “últimos tiempos” y “últimos días” se refieren no sólo al final completo del tiempo en una fecha futura---pero especialmente----sino a los últimos 2000? y tantos años.
La Sagrada Escritura nos enseña que fue la Encarnación, es decir la entrada de Dios en el tiempo y el espacio, en la persona de Jesucristo, lo que marca el comienzo del fin de los tiempos y los últimos días. La epístola a los Hebreos declara:
(Hebreos 1:1) En diversas ocasiones y bajo diferentes formas Dios habló a nuestros padres por medio de los profetas, hasta que en estos días, que son los últimos, nos habló a nosotros por medio del Hijo, a quien hizo destinatario de todo, ya que por él dispuso las edades del mundo.
El es el resplandor de la Gloria de Dios y la impronta de su ser. El, cuya palabra poderosa mantiene el universo, también es el que purificó al mundo de sus pecados, y luego se sentó en los cielos, a la derecha del Dios de majestad.
Jesucristo, la palabra de Dios hecha carne, introdujo los últimos días con su nacimiento. El mismo declaró después durante su ministerio publico de que estaba estableciendo el Reino de Dios: (Mateo 12:27) Y si Beelzebul me ayuda a echar los demonios, ¿quién ayuda a la gente de ustedes cuando los echan? Ellos mismos les darán la respuesta.
Pero si el Espíritu de Dios es el que me permite echar a los demonios, entiendan que el Reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes.
Por favor tambien vean en sus Biblias (Marcos 4:9)
(Lucas 8:1-10) Después, Jesús recorría las ciudades y los pueblos, predicando y anunciando la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios. Lo acompañaban los Doce y también algunas mujeres que habían sido curadas de malos espíritus y enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena, de la que habían salido siete demonios; Juana, esposa de Cusa, intendente de Herodes, Susana y muchas otras, que los ayudaban con sus bienes.
Como se reunía una gran multitud y acudía a Jesús gente de todas las ciudades, él les dijo, valiéndose de una parábola: «El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla. Al sembrar, una parte de la semilla cayó al borde del camino, donde fue pisoteada y se la comieron los pájaros del cielo. Otra parte cayó sobre las piedras y, al brotar, se secó por falta de humedad. Otra cayó entre las espinas, y estas, brotando al mismo tiempo, la ahogaron. Otra parte cayó en tierra fértil, brotó y produjo fruto al ciento por uno». Y una vez que dijo esto, exclamó: «¡El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga!».
Sus discípulos le preguntaron qué significaba esta parábola, y Jesús les dijo: « A ustedes se les ha concedido conocer los misterios del Reino de Dios; a los demás, en cambio, se les habla en parábolas, para que miren sin ver y oigan sin comprender.
El establecimiento del Reino de Dios fue realizado por medio de la muerte de Cristo, su resurrección y su ascensión a los cielos. Cristo mismo es el Reino, y El llama a toda la humanidad a entrar en su vida, la cual se encuentra aquí en la tierra en su Iglesia, su cuerpo Místico.
Los últimos días involucran una nueva creación y un pueblo nuevo, la Iglesia, formada y escogida por Cristo Jesús, la cual ahora crece misteriosamente en la historia. Esta nueva creación fue establecida por medio de la Nueva Alianza (lean el artículo a la derecha "La Nueva Alianza"). Esta alianza nueva y eterna fue ratificada por el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, la cual trascende y completa la Vieja Alianza. “Los últimos días” son el tiempo de la Nueva Alianza, la reunión y unión del pueblo de Dios en la Iglesia, son el brote inicial del Reino de Dios.
De manera que la Primara Venida de Cristo estableció el Reino de Dios en la tierra, en donde viven ahora todos los Cristianos---en la Iglesia---el cual está aun creciendo y continua estableciéndose por todo el mundo. La revelación y manifestación completa del Reino de Dios ocurrirá al final de la historia cuando Cristo regrese en gloria.
(Hechos de los Apostoles 2:14) Entonces, Pedro poniéndose de pie con los Once, levantó la voz y dijo: «Hombres de Judea y todos los que habitan en Jerusalén, presten atención, porque voy a explicarles lo que ha sucedido. Estos hombres no están ebrios, como ustedes suponen, ya que no son más que las nueve de la mañana, sino que se está cumpliendo lo que dijo el profeta Joel:
"En los últimos días, dice el Señor, derramaré mi Espíritu sobre todos los hombres y profetizarán sus hijos y sus hijas; los jóvenes verán visiones y los ancianos tendrán sueños proféticos. Más aún, derramaré mi Espíritu sobre mis servidores y servidoras, y ellos profetizarán. Haré prodigios arriba, en el cielo, y signos abajo, en la tierra: verán sangre, fuego y columnas de humo. El sol se convertirá en tinieblas y la luna en sangre, antes que llegue el Día del Señor, día grande y glorioso.
Los últimos días no están por llegar o casi llegan,----hemos estado,y estámos viviendo en ellos ahora. El juzgamiento de Dios ya ha comenzado, está sucediendo, y será culminado al final del tiempo, el día del Juicio Final. Esto significa que los Cristianos estamos viviendo en un estado como de equilibrio o tensión, porque el Reino de Dios ha sido ya inaugurado y anunciado, pero todavía no ha sido completamente desvelado y completado. Cristo por su muerte y resurrección ha conquistado el pecado y destruido el poder de Satanás, si tan solo la humanidad entera, pudiera reconocer y entrar en la realidad salvífica del Señor.
El Espíritu Santo, el alma de la Iglesia, ha sido---y está siendo---derramado gracias a la obra redentora de Cristo Jesús. El hombre entra en unión con Cristo y comunión con el Padre por medio del poder del Espíritu Santo, “El Señor y dador de Vida”. El Espíritu Santo, junto con el Padre y el Hijo,, en éstos últimos días trabajan continuamente para traer la salvación a la humanidad entera.

My next question is: what's the difference between hermeneutic and exegesis?
Let's say that there is a young man who can speak both perfect Spanish and German, then he is asked by a professor in Nicaragua to translate a book of Thermodynamics from German to Spanish; the young man does the translation, and does it well, but, he does not know anything about Thermodynamics or understands what the book says; the professor on the other hand, understands the translated version of the book and explains its content to his students; the young man performed a case of hermeneutic, and the professor does the exegesis.
The word “hermeneutic”, is exclusively applied or used to refer to the translation of ancient manuscripts or books, like the Bible; and like in any translation, many times the translator, will translate the idea been express, the best way he knows,
since it is impossible to translate word for word, from one language to another.
(Exegesis) The “experts” in a determine field will interpret what the meaning or meanings are of the ideas presented in certain writings, like the Bible; the exegesis of the Bible is done by men and women who not only have knowledge of ancient languages and cultures, and who are mostly theologians, but also experts in philosophy, and other disciplines.
Besides being experts in many fields, the interpreters of the sacred books need to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, who is the author of the Scriptures, and the only one who can give us the real meaning of the sacred lessons, never the less, many self appointed “prophets” claim nowadays to have the “official” revelation; even though the Lord appointed His Church to do that. (Matt.16:18) “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church”.
(John 16:13) “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
You've been using the terms “milenealists” and “dispensationalists” are they the same, or is there a difference?
No, they refer to the same group of evangelicals that believe in the doctrine of the “rapture” as explain by Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye, the two main promoters of such believe; sometimes they are called “milenealists”, because of their believe that the “thousand years” mentioned in (Revelation 20) means literally 1000 thousand years of 365 days, and not a symbolic long period of time, as we Catholics and many other protestant groups believe.
Some other times, we call them “dispensationalists” for their believe in dividing the “salvation history” in seven periods, as I already explained in “part 1” of this series, but, they are the same group of evangelicals.
Now, to complicate matters most, among the evangelical groups that believe in the “rapture” there are 3 different groups; one group (the Lindsey/LaHaye) believes the rapture will happen before the “7 years of tribulation”, this group besides of all the names we've already called them, are also called the “pre-tribulation group”; a second group believes that, the rapture will happen in the middle of the “tribulation period”, and they are called the “mid-tribulation” group; and there is a third group that believes that the rapture will happen at the end of the “tribulation period”, they are called the “post-tribulation” group; and by the way, we Catholics believe the Lord will come at the end of the “tribulation period”, as we'll later explain.
In this series, I'm just giving you a briefing on the phenomena called “the rapture”, for you to have a good understanding or idea of what it means, and so you as a good Catholic are not caught unprepared or blind sided by the preachers of confusion; but, if you want to have a better knowledge about this matter, I recommend to you to get the book “ Will Catholics be Left Behind?” by Carl E. Olson, who wrote extensively and who, as a former evangelical and follower of Hal Lindsey has a good and unique perspective and understanding on this subject; you can buy the book trough the internet, by going to www.ignatius.com or www. What adds to the confusion in understanding the book of Revelation/Apocalypse is the fact that many of the people who read it, try to follow it in a chronological and orderly matter; that is wrong because the vision of John is a dream, and like your dreams, things are chaotically presented and there is no order in time, size o matter. (Rev.1:17) When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
"Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
The Magisterium of the Church, does the interpretation and explanation of the Word of God for us Catholics; we should try to educate ourselves even more, by reading books written by priests and Catholic apologists like Carl E Olson, Scott Hahn, Tim Gray (www.catholiccompany.com) Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), Father Mitch Pacwa and many others.
We see in the previous verse that John is supposed to write about things present, things that have already occurred and things in the future, that will occur later; which is what we experience in our dreams, but, if we try to make sense of what we dreamed of last night, we'll be confused for the rest of our lives. Lucky for us, the Magisterium comes to help and explain what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell us, we don't have to invent new meanings or explanations, we have to take the Bible as a whole and not as unrelated parts or isolated messages.
The Last Days
That brings me to the subject of the “last days” as understood by the “dispensationalists” and by us, Catholics; sometimes you'll find the term “eschatology” mentioned in relation to the last days or “doomsday” as it is called in English; the Greek word “eschatos” refers to the teachings about the last things, from there, “eschatology” is the study or things related to the “last things” or “end times”, including death, resurrection, the Parousia (Christ's Second Coming), judgment, heaven and hell.
According to the fundamentalists the last days have finally arrived, the end of the world is just around the corner; many fundamentalist and evangelical pastors, televangelists and teachers are warning of an economic collapse (even though it was eminent and evident, thanks to greed and avarice that exists in the world today;and the stupid economic practices of the last years, exercise mainly by the big corporations and largest banks), societal anarchy, global warfare, an apostate “one world religion” (according to the fundamentalists, led by the Catholic Church; what a surprise!), and the rise of the Antichrist (is he Puertorican?).
The Last Days and Something about the Kingdom
Are we, as the evangelicals preach living in the “last days”. If so, how long before the Second Coming (Parousia) occurs, and what exactly will transpire when Christ “will appear a second time”?
(Hebrews 9:27) Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
For the Church, the final period of world history begins with the birth of Christ and includes the pilgrim journey of the Church and will be consummated with the Second Coming of Christ. So looking at the larger picture, “end times” and “last days” refer not only to the end of time at some future date, but equally---even specially---to the last two thousand and some years. Scripture teaches that it was the Incarnation, the entrance of God into time and space, in the person of Jesus Christ, that marked the start of the end times and the last days. The epistle to the Hebrews declares:
(Hebrews 1:1) In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, ushered in the last days when he was born. He then declare during his public ministry that He was establishing the Kingdom of God (Matt. 12:27) And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
(Mark 4:9) Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that, " 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'" The establishment of the Kingdom of God was realized through Christ's death, resurrection and his ascension into heaven. Christ himself is the Kingdom, and he calls all men to enter into his life, which here on earth is found in the Church, his Mystical Body.
The last days involve a new creation and a new people, the Church, formed and chosen by Jesus Christ and now mysteriously growing in history. This new creation was established by the New Covenant. This new and everlasting covenant was ratified by the body and blood of Christ, and it transcended and completed the Old Covenant. The “last days” is the time of the New Covenant, the gathering together o God's people in the Church becomes on earth the initial budding forth of that Kingdom.
Therefore Christ's first coming established the Kingdom of God on earth, and Christians are now living in that kingdom---in the Church--- which is still growing and being established throughout the world. The full revelation and manifestation of the Kingdom will occur at the end of time when Christ returns in glory.
(Acts 2:14) Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: " 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
The last days are not just ahead of us---we live in them today. God's judgment of man has already begun, is ongoing, and will be finalized at the end of time at the Last Judgment. This means that Christians live in a state of tension because the Kingdom of God has been inaugurated and revealed but has not yet been fully disclosed and realized. Christ by his death and Resurrection, has conquered sin and destroyed the power of Satan, if only men will recognize and enter into this salvific reality.
The Holy Spirit, the soul of the Church, has been ---and is being---poured out because of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Man enters into union with Christ and communion with the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit, “the Lord and giver of Life”. The Holy Spirit, with the Father and the Son, continually works to bring about the salvation of mankind in these last days.
