"¡Cuánto debo criticarte, iglesia mía, y, sin embargo, cuánto te quiero! Tú me has hecho sufrir más que nadie, y, sin embargo, te debo a ti más que a ningún otro. Me gustaría verte destruida, y, sin embargo, necesito tu presencia.

Cristo es el unico mediador entre Dios y los hombres
Al terminar el capitulo anterior, dijiste que Cristo es el único mediador entre Dios y los hombres; como explicas entonces, el rezar a los santos?

Algunos grupos alegan que la Iglesia esta equivocada al permitir el rezar a los santos porque según dicen ellos, la Biblia enseña que Cristo es el único mediador entre Dios y la humanidad; el problema es, que estos grupos confunden los términos “mediador” e “intercesor”, los cuales no significan la misma cosa. Recordemos que Moisés fue mediador e intercesor entre Dios y los Israelitas, a como también lo fueron los profetas.
(Hebreos 8:6) Mas ahora ha obtenido él un ministerio
tanto mejor cuanto es Mediador de una mejor Alianza, como fundada en promesas mejores.
Por razón de la nueva Alianza, Cristo es no solo sumo sacerdote, sino también mediador entre Dios y los hombres, ahora ya no es necesario que haya otros mediadores, ni que se tenga que sacrificar a chivos y cabritos, pues a como ya hemos dicho, el sacrificio en la cruz, es el acto de expiación por excelencia, que borra los pecados del mundo para siempre.
Christ is the only Mediator between God and man
You finished the last chapter by saying that Christ is the only mediator between God and man; how then, do you explain the fact that we pray to the saints?

Some groups claim that to pray to the saints is wrong, because the Scriptures teach that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man; part of their mistake is that they confuse the terms ‘mediator,’ with ‘intercessor’ which, are definitely not the same thing; before Christ, Moses was a mediator and an intercessor between the Israelites and God, and so were also all the prophets.
(Hebrews 8:6) But the ministry Jesus has received is as
superior to the ministry of the old priests, as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.We see here that, by reason of the new covenant, Jesus is not only the High Priest, but, “the mediator” between God and the human race. From now on, there is no necessity of any more mediators and no more sacrifices of bulls and sheep. As we have already said, the one holy sacrifice on the cross fulfills all the requirements of atonement for all the sins of man, for ever.
(1 Timoteo 2:1) Ante todo recomiendo que se hagan plegarias, oraciones, súplicas y acciones de gracias (todas estas palabras, significan: intercesión) por todos los hombres; por los reyes y por todos los constituidos en autoridad, para que podamos vivir una vida tranquila y apacible con toda piedad y dignidad.
Esto es bueno y agradable a Dios, nuestro Salvador, que quiere que todos los hombres se salven y lleguen al conocimiento pleno de la verdad. Porque hay un solo Dios, y también un solo mediador entre Dios y los hombres, Cristo Jesús, hombre también, que se entregó a sí mismo como rescate por todos.
Este pasaje nos ensena que debemos de interceder los unos por los otros, porque es agradable a Dios. Si nuestro Padre celestial se siente complacido con las intercesiones de un pecador como yo, pues creo que se sentirá mas satisfecho con las intercesiones de nuestra Señora la Virgen María y todos los santos que ya están en el cielo. Notemos como San Pablo inmediatamente después que nos exhorta a interceder por nuestros hermanos, llama a Nuestro Señor: el único mediador.
Lo que demuestra que son dos acciones diferentes ejecutadas por los fieles (la Iglesia), y por Cristo.
Yo puedo por ejemplo interceder por otra persona; supongamos que hay un altercado, y un muchacho por su inmadurez y juventud se mete a problemas y es arrestado; yo voy y hablo con los oficiales, y logro convencerlos que por favor dejen ir al muchacho, que mas que nada actuó imprudentemente, los policías lo dejan ir y me piden que me haga responsable de él.
Ahora supongamos que alguien comete un crimen serio como, robarse un carro o herir de gravedad a otra persona; el malhechor es arrestado y presentado ante el juez quien lo condena a pagar por su crimen. Yo no puedo llegar a donde el juez y decirle que deje en libertad al acusado, y que yo cumpliré con la sentencia impuesta, es decir, que yo iré al “bote” en lugar del matón.
Porqué esto no funciona? Pues porque la persona que comete un crimen es quien tiene que pagarlo, o sea que no puedo en este ultimo caso, ser mediador entre la justicia y el criminal.
(1Timothy2:1) First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone,(be intercessors) for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as ransom for all.
This passage shows that we should intercede for one another, because it is pleasing to God. So if God is pleased with the supplications (intercessions) of a sinner like me, shouldn’t He be more pleased with the intercessions of let’s say the holy Virgin Mary and all the saints that are already in heaven? If we pay attention, after St. Paul asks us to pray (intercede) for all the church, he goes on to call our Lord, ‘the one Mediator’ between God and the human race.
I can intercede for another person, with another party, for example: if a young man gets in trouble, because of his lack of good judgment and youth, and let’s say that, he is going to be arrested; I could go and talk to the police officers and plead his case, and probably depending on the nature of the fault and the disposition of the cops, they might release him to me.
Now, if someone commits a serious crime, like, stealing a car or beating someone else badly, and is taken to jail and sent later on in front of the judge; the judge will sentence that person for the crime that he committed; I can not go and tell the judge to let that person go free, and put me in jail in his place (I would become the expiatory victim); why not? Because I can not be a mediator, between the justice system and a criminal; it would be ridiculous and unjust to let such a thing to happen, don’t you think?
Un buen abogado tampoco puede (teóricamente) liberar a una persona que ha cometido un crimen, lo único que puede hacer es mitigar la sentencia con alegatos, y truculencia “legal” (si se puede decir así); pero el acusado tendrá que pasar tiempo en la bartolina.
En el primer ejemplo yo he actuado como intercesor o abogado, y pude ayudar al joven de nuestro relato, pero en el segundo caso, no existe posibilidad de intercesión. ¿O será que si?
(Isaiahs 55:7) Que el malvado abandone su camino
y el hombre perverso, sus pensamientos;
que vuelva al Señor, y él le tendrá compasión,
a nuestro Dios, que es generoso en perdonar.
Porque los pensamientos de ustedes no son los míos,
ni los caminos de ustedes son mis caminos.
Como el cielo se alza por encima de la tierra,
así sobrepasan mis caminos y mis pensamientos
a los caminos y a los pensamientos de ustedes.

Los caminos de Dios no son los caminos de los hombres, es decir, nosotros no podemos ni imaginar la grandeza de la bondad y misericordia de Dios; que siendo nosotros malos, pecadores y hasta criminales, fuimos objeto del amor de Dios, por lo cual Cristo se adjudicó toda nuestra culpa y pecados, llevándolos con El hasta la cruz, donde pagó el precio de nuestra maldad ante la justicia divina, muriendo clavado como cualquier criminal, para que nosotros tengamos vida eterna.
I hope you can see that in the first example, I interceded for the young man that committed a misdemeanor, in other words I acted like a lawyer, and because of my pleading, and I was able to help him. But in the second example, whomever commits a serious crime must pay for it, and bear the consequences .
Nobody can take the place of a criminal, not even the best lawyer in the world, besides, it is not the roll of lawyers to present themselves as escape goats for nobody, their job is just to defend his clients and try to get the most lenient penalties for them, and sometimes to get them off the hook altogether.
(Isaiah 55:7)Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; Let him turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts.
The ways of God are not the ways of man, and even though we are sinners and criminals, The God-Man Jesus, took all our faults and sins on himself, and carried them to the cross, and paid to God The Father the price for all our faults, He took our place and suffered death, so we could live for ever. Meditate on this explanation, and you’ll come to the realization of the magnitude of the love of God, the sacrifice of Christ and our wretchedness. Now, read again the following verse, it will have a new meaning for you.
(Hebrews 5:8)Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation(The Mediator) for all who obey him, declared by God high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
All the saints can intercede for us before God, but there is only One Redeemer for them and for us: Jesus Christ the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. I hope that now you can tell the difference between, 'intercessor' and 'mediator'.
Medita sobre estas enseñanzas, y te darás cuenta de la magnitud del amor de Dios, del sacrificio de Cristo y de nuestra miseria. Ahora lee el siguiente párrafo, y esta vez tendrá destellos maravillosos que alumbraran tu corazón.

Todos los santos pueden interceder ante Dios por nosotros, pero todos ellos al igual que nosotros tienen un solo Redentor: Cristo Jesús el Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo. Todos los santos, son como flechas que apuntan al Salvador, y que nos sirven de ejemplo, para que no olvidemos nunca, bendecir, alabar y adorar a Dios.
Espero que ahora te quede claro la diferencia entre, intercesor y Mediador. No se olviden de confesarse en esta Cuaresma, lean las Escrituras, y formen su club de lectores Bíblicos en su parroquia, con la ayuda y orientación de su sacerdote local.
